2 John - session 1
This letter from John was written to a lady of the "elect" (meaning a member of the Christian church). As we might expect, John is true to his emphasis on love!
As you have heard from the beginning, [Christs'] command is that you walk in love. (2 John 1:6)

Many Gnostics went about their business of trying to deceive many of the faithful Believers. They were determined to undermine the true Christian Doctrine. They claimed that Christ had not come in the flesh, only in the Spirit. In today's culture, some people are called Agnostic. The word "Gnostic" implies knowing the truth, so Agnostic fits those who search for the truth, but don't know WHAT to believe.
John did his best to warn fellow Christians about deceivers. He even strongly advised that they not be taken into Christian homes, as would the usual missionaries that had always been welcome.
God bless!
