Romans - session 4
Romans 8:31 - 12:21
"If God can be for us, who can be against us."
These words have echoed down the ages of Christianity. One can imagine the inspiration that this verse gave the martyrs, and still does today. Also this one;

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, angels or demons, the present or the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus, our Lord.

We as students always add "only myself" if I turn my back on Him and renounce His Holy Spirit. Heaven forbid!
In chapters 9 and 10, Paul pours out his concern for his Hebrew "brothers". Why, oh why couldn't they understand The redeeming Gospel of Jesus Christ? He explains it all again in 10:9-15 that if you confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that God raised Him [Jesus] from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified. (My students claimed they were never tired of my saying this, "It's what's in the heart that counts.")
Because of the love and compassion of God "all of Israel will be saved (Romans 11:26). If only all the Christian leaders since Paul's day had realized this!

As it is written: The deliverer will come from Zion He will turn godlessness away from Jacob [Israel]. And this is my covenant with them When I take away their sins [Isaiah 59:20].
Paul had a wonderfully close, personal relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. In verse 2 of chapter 12, he gave this instruction for the way. "Do not be conformed to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." Then you will know God's "good, pleasing, perfect will." In other words: set Christian pirorities. He went on to say,
Do not think more highly of yourself, but rather with sober judgment. We all have our distinctive gifts given us by God. All gifts are valuable to the whole.
Paul gave a more complete account of the Gifts in I Corinthians 12. This whole chapter gives us an over view of the Christian life. Do read it!
I'm sure you have heard this helpful, far-reaching verse; "Vengeance is mine, says the Lord" (Romans 12:19). To "heap coals of fire" on someone's head was an ancient custom of "over-doing it". We are free to let God have His way in a frustrating situation. He gives us that chanced to leave it to Him and MOVE ON!
God bless!
