Titus - session 1

Paul depended on Titus as a trouble-shooter. He sent him out to several churches where he faced a challenging task. Just as Paul's letters to Timothy were instructional, so was this letter to Titus. It continues to be quite helpful to church leaders.
Evidently, on the island of Crete, the average citizen was crude and apt to lie about anything. A firm hand was needed at the church there (and we think we have troubles in our churches!). Paul wanted Titus to stress the renewal of their hearts and minds when they accepted Jesus as the Christ, their Savior. Chapter three, verses 1-8 is a sermon well worth reading, meditating on and absorbing. Sometimes the most inspiring messages come in the fewest of words!

But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ, our Savior, so that having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. (Titus 3:4-7)
That is the gospel in a nutshell!
